Jamaica Launches Early Flood Warning System

Jamaica now has an early flood warning system.

The Rio Cobre Early Flood Warning System was launched on Monday in Bog Walk, St. Catherine.

Senator Pearnel Charles Jr, Minister with responsibility for Water, said the system will be a game changer for Jamaica as the authorities will be better able to predict and respond to natural disasters.

The system is owned and operated by the Water Resources Authority and is the Caribbean’s only early flood warning system.

In July 2017, the Government and the Caribbean Development Bank (CDB) signed a grant agreement to upgrade and expand the Rio Cobre Flood Early Warning System.
